Infinity War ended in the way we all feared. In a move that none of us truly believed Marvel would ever make, with a snap of Thanos’ fingers, half the population was wiped out. Half of every population. Half of our heroes, gone, with just a snap.
So, where does that leave us? Well, that can be summed up in the haunting title of the fourth Avengers film: Endgame. And the trailer is as dark as you might imagine.
The first trailer for Avengers: Endgame was released on Friday morning, and while its final moments offer some glimmer of hope, the rest of the trailer is equally unsettling and depressing. Things are not looking good for Tony Stark, who was one of the two left alive after fighting Thanos on Titan (the other being Nebula). And while each death was hard to stomach, it’s no secret that watching Peter turn to dust was the hardest of all. He was just a kid, and knowing Tony, he’s putting most of the blame on himself. But as we see in the trailer, he’s no longer on Titan, but on a spaceship, alone, with no food, water, and declining oxygen. And based on the message he leaves for Pepper, he doesn’t think he’s going to make it.
But not all hope is lost. Steve and Natasha, both visibly grief-stricken, seem to have a plan. What that is, we don’t know. But we’d guess they’re trying to reverse the damage Thanos has done. After all, he did what he set out to do. He’s not much of a threat anymore. Our classic duo, Black Widow and Captain America are teaming up for potentially the last time to make things right.
“This is gonna work, Steve.”
“I know it is. ‘Cause I don’t know what I’m gonna do if it doesn’t.”-Natasha and Steve in Avengers: Endgame
Things may be looking bleak now, but if we have faith in anyone, it’s our original team of Avengers, all six of whom survived Thanos. If anyone can make things alright again, it’s them. Don’t let us down.
