And it’s all thanks to Murray! Who would have thought?

This episode was absolutely amazing, and there are so many reasons why that I can’t fit it all into one post! Stay tuned for the Hawkins low-down, but in the meantime, let’s talk about this long-awaited ship that finally became canon!

Nancy and Jonathan Are Finally Together

After over a season of will they, won’t they, Nancy and Jonathan have finally sealed the deal. Literally. And the way it went down was kind of perfect. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Murray, Nancy, and Jonathan make copies of the tape that will bring down Hawkins Lab, and mail it off to different newspapers. They have a celebratory drink and, as it’s a long drive home and it’s after dark, Murray suggests they stay the night. They agree, and Jonathan asks if he can take the sofa. Murray’s reaction is priceless. It basically goes down like this:

Murray proceeds to psychoanalyze our Hawkins teens and he’s honestly so on the ball, it’s hilarious. He calls out Jonathan on his trust issues, most likely due to his father. And as for Nancy, apparently she’s harder to read. But Murray reckons she’s struggling with accepting who she is, and is scared of retreating back to what’s safe, what’s known. AKA Steve. She likes Steve, he says, but she doesn’t love Steve. Besides, Nancy and Jonathan have shared trauma. That mixed with the undeniable electricity between them? How has it not happened yet?

Both of them deny all of this, of course, and head off to their separate rooms. But neither can sleep. Jonathan’s still not over the whole trust issues comment, and Nancy refuses to believe that she would retreat under any circumstance. Both of them head out to meet one another, defending themselves and each other. They laugh, share an awkward moment of silence, and then head back.

But the blindfolds have been removed. They’re no longer ignorant, and they can’t pretend that they still are. Nancy heads out of her bedroom only to see that Jonathan is right at her door. Within seconds, they’re kissing. At first, she pulls back. But then she’s kissing him again. And though we don’t see how the rest of the night goes down, we can definitely assume. Especially considering that when Murray asked, “So, Jonathan, how was the pull-out?” Jonathan literally choked, I’d say it’s obvious what happened!

Now, don’t get me wrong. I love Steve and Nancy together. But I think this is the best thing that could have happened for all three characters. Jonathan has never really fit in, never really been close with anyone outside of his family. Until Nancy, that is. This relationship allows for him to grow. As for Nancy? It allows her to accept who she is, and accept the fact that she doesn’t have to be normal, or fit in. It allows her to just be. And I think this will be good for Steve too. In the first season, most of his identity revolved around Nancy. Now he has an opportunity to become his own person and have his own arc. And trust me, it’s happening! Stay tuned for more on that!

I don’t know about you, but I am very excited to see how things progress with these two!! For more on what happened in Chapter Six, follow us and check out our Stranger Things Page here!
